Jess' signs at 17 months

When a friend in America asked how successful signing had been as she was thinking of signing with her daughter, I started to jot down the signs Jess was regularly using at that point. I was amazed when the list, in rough order of acquisition, totalled more than 100 signs. She was, of course, speaking with many of the signs by then. This was our signing "high point" before words increasingly began to replace signs. However, at 20 months, with hundreds of words at her disposal, Jess still signs every day, whether for fun or to aid communication. She has started using a few other signs since this list:

milk (started at 8 months)

eat (now tells me when she is hungry)

drink

"love you" (she has refined this and now signs love correctly rather than her own version. She says you or points.)
